Don A. Marcell, age 74, Iron River, MI, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015. Don was born on July 24, 1940 in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Norman and Evelyn (Applin) Marcell. He attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating with the Class of 1958. He worked for the former Newberry Store prior to entering the U.S. Navy in 1962. Upon his honorable discharge in 1966, he attended Northern Michigan University obtaining a Cum Laude Bachelor of Arts Degree in business education. While at NMU, Don was vice president and president of Phi Beta Lambda, Blue Key National Society. He taught school in Oscoda Area Schools for four years prior to moving to Shawano, WI where the taught Business Education and French at the Menominee Indian School District, retiring in 1995. He also worked at several summer camps. He was a member the St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River. He was an avid fisherman and reader as well as enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. He is survived by his sons, Jason Marcell, Iron River, MI, Troy Marcell, Appleton, WI; Adam Marcell, Shawano, WI; brothers, Roland (Nancy) Marcell, Iron Mountain, MI, Edward (Diana) Marcell, Iron River, MI, Norman (Sandra) Marcell, Iron River, MI, William (Stephanie) Marcell, NM; sisters, Mary (James) Shepich, Caspian, MI, Beth (James) Willis, Dixie, GA; grandchildren, Tristen, Dylan, Isaiah, and Bennett; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Frederick Marcell, and close friends, Kenneth Moeller and Lee Hesse. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 9:00 am to 12:15 pm at Jacobs Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 12:30 pm at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the service.
