Donald W. Autio Age 77 Marshall, MI (formerly of Iron River, MI) Passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2012. He was born on February 19, 1935, the son of the late Arthur and Gertrude (Wehvila) Autio. Don attended school in Iron River, graduating from Iron River High School with the Class of 1953. He went on to attend Michigan Technological University earning his Bachelor 's Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1957. While there, he was a member of the Michigan Tech President Society, the Career Center Advisory board, and an active member of EAC. Don later attended Central Michigan University where he received his Master 's Degree. He was a professional engineer in both Michigan and Kentucky. Don retired in 1994 from Dow-Corning after 30 years. He recruited for Dow-Corning at Michigan Tech for 25 years. Upon retirement, they moved to Iron River and lived 16 years at Sunset Lake. Two years ago they moved downstate to Marshall, MI. He wanted to be near his children and grandchildren, whom he adored. Don married Kay Kuusisto on June 17, 1961 in Waukegan, IL. The couple celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary this year. Don was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron River, past member of the Bates Township Board of Review, Past President and member to the Iron County School Board, and Past President and member of the Kiwanis of Iron County. He has been a member of the Masonic Lodge for the past 50 years and held many offices in the Hiawatha Council while involved with the Boys Scouts for over 60 years. He was an avid reader and loved woodworking in his workshop, fishing and golfing. He is survived by his wife, Kay Son, Brian Autio of Beaverton, OR Daughters, Dawn (Alan) Elliott of Marshall, MI Melissa (John) Glass of Grand Rapids, MI Sisters, Carol (Willard) Olson of Iron River Sandra Williams of New Rochelle, NY Grandchildren, Kierstin Elliott, Erik Elliott, Keegan Elliott, Megan Glass and Abbie Glass Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 27, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church, Iron River. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Bonny Kinnunen to officiate. Interment will be in Bates Township Cemetery, Iron River, MI. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America or the Michigan Tech Scholarship Program.
