Donald G. Maki, age 74, Stambaugh Township, MI. died Monday, November 12, 2007 at the Iron River Care Center, Iron River, MI. Born: November 10, 1933 in Stambaugh Township. The son of the late Samuel and Hilma (Hirvo) Maki was a lifelong resident. He attended the Palatka, Caspian and Stambaugh schools and graduated from Stambaugh High School in 1952. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Don was employed by the Iron River Reporter and later by the Iron Mountain Daily News, as branch manager of the Iron River office, retiring in 1996. He was very active in Iron County. Donald enjoyed working with the U.P. Rodeo and was a dedicated Kiwanis member for many years, never having missed a meeting. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, making frequent trips to Montana or some local trout stream. He also held the annual South Brule Golf Invitational for the Hully Gully crew and close friends for many years. He was preceded in death by his special companion, Barbara Lohrey; brothers, Veikko ""Joe"", Julius, William, Arvo, and Ralph, and sister, Mathilda Mattson LaChapell. He is survived by sons: Theodore Maki of Silver City, NM Todd (Justine) Maki of Iron Mountain, MI Daughters: Pamela (Chris) Everson of Ramsey, MN Ginger (John) Furlong of Oconto, WI Sister-in-law, Miriam Maki of Gaastra, MI Nine grandchildren: Sarah, Samantha , and Derek Everson Heidi Maki and Patrick Furlong Teddie and Laramie Maki Daniel and Grace Maki Numerous nieces and nephews Visitation: Friday, November 16, 2007 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Service: Friday, November 16, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Interment: Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River. The West Side Veterans Council will accord Military Rites.
