Donald G. Meyer

Donald G. Meyer, age 83 of Iron River, MI, died Sunday, May 31, 2009 at the Northstar Health System, Iron River. Born: January 15, 1926 in Stambaugh, MI The son of the late Otto and Irene (Benjamin) Meyer attended the Iron River schools and graduated. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in the European-African- Middle Eastern Theater. He and his brothers owned and operated Meyer Provision Company of Iron River. Donald married the former Marilyn Zyskowski on February 9, 1944 in Crystal Falls and the couple were lifelong residents of the Iron River area. The couple celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in 2008. Marilyn preceded him death on January 5, 2009. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed snowmobiling, traveling and boating on Hagerman Lake. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Morris and Arthur Meyer and sister Shirley Stoychoff. He is survived by four sons; Donald (Judith) Meyer of Ishpeming, MI Roy (Adele) Meyer of Paw Paw, MI Duane (Terri) Meyer of Lawrenceburg, IN Douglas (Nancy) Meyer of Sand Point, ID One brother, Otto Mayer of Iron River One sister, Arlene Carne of Escanaba, MI 13 grandchildren 11 great grandchildren 4 step-great grandchildren Nieces and nephews Visitation: Wednesday, June 3, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, June 4, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Graveside Services: Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 1p.m. at Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River. The West Side Veterans will accord military rites. Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River.
