Donald "Tony" L. Kurtz Sr., 78, of Crystal Falls, passed away on November 12, 2022. He was born in Crystal Falls, MI on July 1, 1944, the son of Louis and Gertrude Kurtz. Tony attended Alpha Public School and graduated in 1963. Tony attended three years of college and married his wife, Mary in 1966. Together they lived in Milwaukee until 1969 and then moved back to the Buck Lake area of Crystal Falls, MI. Tony started Kurtz Construction, as a general contractor and worked for 30-plus years in the surrounding area. During this time, he and his family enjoyed farming and working part-time as an industrial arts teacher. Tony enjoyed many competitive matches of pinochle and ping-pong. One of his passions, when he was younger, was flying his Liscomb airplane. Tony also enjoyed hunting and going to the camp with family and friends. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers. Sunday afternoons were spent watching the game with his family. He always had a great love for animals, which included his pet bear “Poutch” and he especially had a great fondness for his dog Mack. Tony was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He and his wife have been dedicated to Jehovah for more than 53 years. Tony is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Donald Jr (Penny) Kurtz, Doreen Marcell, and Daniel (Angela) Kurtz; seven grandchildren, Samantha, Cody, Nicole, Kyle, Taylor, Max, and Anthony; eight great-grandchildren, Macee, Maddox, Grayson, Maverick, Mila, Evilynn, Grayson, and Adalynn; siblings, Jim (Carol), Louis “Woody”, and Ted (Cheryl); brothers-in-law, Wayne (Robin) Dombrowski and Jerry (Kim) Nowikowski; sister-in-law, Gloria Kamine; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Louis and Gertrude Kurtz; sister, Carol; grandson, Dustin; sister-in-law; Jan; brother-in-law, Leonard Kamines; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jerome “Big Dad” and Evelyn Nowikowski. Services will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the Iron River Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Bates Amasa Road with Darrin Kurtz officiating.
