Dorothy Kniivila

Dorothy E. Vassar-Kniivila Age 91 Iron River, MI Passed away on November 13, 2012 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls, MI. She was born on December 5, 1920 in Florence, WI, the daughter of the late Walter and Edith (White) Vassar. She attended the Bates School and graduated with the Iron River Class of 1939. Dorothy owned and operated Dorothy 's Food Market in Stambaugh, MI for a number of years. Dorothy married Reino Seilo and he preceded her in death. She later married Leonard Holmes and he also preceded her in death. She married Earl Kniivila on June 18, 1983 at the First Presbyterian Church of Iron River and the couple made their home in Iron River. They celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary in 2012. Dorothy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Iron River, the Stambaugh Legion Post 21 Auxiliary and the Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed knitting, shoveling snow, gardening and tending to her flowers, and spending time with her family and her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Earl Kniivila Daughters, Janice (Edward) Camps Judith (Steve) Russell Stepchildren, Bruce (Ethie) Kniivila Beth (Hans) Sageng Nancy (Kent Adam) Kniivila Julie Parkins Stepbrother, Earl McQuown Sisters-in-law, Ruth Christofferson Helen Suomi Joan Vassar Marge Farmer Grandchildren, Curtis (Teri) Camps, Daniel (Melanie) Camps, Michelle (Charles) Erickson, Dawn Sageng, Alexis and Kira Jones Great grandchildren, Alyssa, Ashley and Tyler Camps Alaina Erickson Logan Fish Great, great grandson, Mason Marheine She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ervin, Warren, and Clarence Vassar. Visitation: Monday, November 19, 2012 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Iron River. Funeral Service: Monday, November 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Kathy Charter to officiate. Interment: Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River.
