Dorothy K Waite, age 89, passed away on November 22, 2011, at the Iron River Care Center. She was born May 24, 1922 to the late Joseph and Josephine (Chemeiski) Kondro. She attended Iron River Schools. On July 10, 1942, she married Edmund Waite at the former Assumption Catholic Church of Iron River and the couple made their home in Bates Township. During the war she followed Ed to Georgia where she worked as a waitress in a military dining hall. After the war Dorothy and Eddie built a house next to his folks. She sat in the barn straightening used nails to build that house. She loved their home and worked hard at maintaining it. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and the arrival of her great grandchild was beyond words. She was a great cook! She liked to pick berries, garden and spend time at their Sunset Lake property. Dorothy was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church and the Rosary Sodality. She was preceded in death by her husband Eddie September 14, 2006. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, John and Bernard Kondro and three sisters, Jennie Bachman, Camella Swor, and Bernice Polich She is survived by her daughter, Janice Groteboer of Rochester, MN, Two sisters, Helen Shubat of Iron River, MI Teckla Sklepinski of Ravenna, MI Two grandchildren, Jodi Groteboer (Jason) of Portland, OR and Jon Groteboer (Jen) of Washington, DC One great-granddaughter, Rayna Jae of Portland, OR Nieces, nephews and extended family Visitation will be Tuesday, December 6, 2011, 9:30-10:45 at the St Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 6th at 11 a.m., at St Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River, with Rev Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial Interment: Bates Township Cemetery, Iron River Memorials will be forwarded to St Jude 's Children 's Hospital in memory of Dorothy.
