Dwight "Dick" Solander

Dwight “Dick” C. Solander, age 73, of Iron River, MI, passed away on December 27, 2023 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls, MI. He was born on October 22, 1950 in Stambaugh, MI, son of the late Clarence and Gladys (Anderson) Solander. Dick attended the Stambaugh and West Iron County Schools, graduating with the class of 1968. Dick was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. Dick married Wendy Greenwood on February 7, 1970 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Stambaugh, MI. They celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary this year. He was a prop maker for the movie industry for 11 years and later moved to Minnesota where he was a self-employed carpenter. Dick was a member of The American Legion Reino Post #21. He was an avid motorcyclist. In 1978 the family made a cross country trip from California to Iron River and back, on a motorcycle with a custom two seat side car accompanied by his wife and two young daughters . Dick also enjoyed the art of karate with his family, hunting, camping, and spending time with his many friends and family. Through the years Dick was a faithful Packer fan. Dick is survived by his wife, Wendy; daughters, Tara (Alicia) Solander-Hicks of Richfield, MN and Korey Solander of Dardenne Prairie, MO; brother, Don (Rose) Solander of Harvey, MI; sisters, Christine Shamion of Iron River, MI and Joan Lemon of Grand Rapids, MI; sister-in-law, Pam (John) Ivey of De Pere, WI; grandchildren, Sean and Makenna Lee; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
