Edsel A. Maki

Edsel A. Maki, age 87, of Iron River, MI, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at the Golden Living Center, Florence, WI. He was born February 14, 1929 in Watton, MI, the son of the late Samuel and Matilda (Ketola) Maki. He attended the Watton School and graduated from L’Anse High School. Edsel married the former Doris Sutherland on June 11, 1955 and the couple made their home at Hagerman Lake. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in 2011. Doris preceded him in death in 2012. He was a member of the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church of Iron River and the Michigan Laborer’s Union Local # 1329 for 35 years. He enjoyed playing board games, croquet, basketball, and snowmobiling with his children and grandchildren. Edsel was described as a man of few words, who was strong man that never kept still.     Edsel is survived by his sons, Wayne (Carolyn) Maki of Dayton, MN, Bruce (Kim) Maki of Kansasville, WI, and David Maki of Iron River; daughters, Susan (Ole) Dalby of Ann Arbor, MI, Betty (David) Kyllonen of Caspian, Karen Maki of Lansing, MI, and Debbie (Larry) Dobson of Iron River; grandchildren, Charles Kyllonen, Eric Kyllonen, John Dalby, Joshua Maki, Tina Maddox, Danielle Dobson, and Ryan Maki; five great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his grandson, David Kyllonen Jr.; brothers, Arnie, Wilho and Asser Maki; sisters, Aili Tarvainen, Sadie Mattonen, Ellen Kapusta, Vera Maki and Theresa Hermanson. Visitation will be held Monday, January 30, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Minister Charles Prusi to officiate. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery, in the spring.
