Eleanor Anderson

Eleanor Anderson, age 92, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. She was born on December 27, 1926 in Iron River, MI, the daughter of the late Bernard and Elisabeth (Kalland) Martinson.  Eleanor grew up in Beechwood, attending school there and in Iron River.   She was a lifelong resident of the area except during World War II, when she was a “Rosie the Riveter” at a production plant in Ypsilanti, MI making tank treads.  Eleanor married Chester Anderson on November 29, 1947 in Iron River, MI and the couple made their home in Stambaugh Township.  They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in 2006.  Chester preceded her in death on January 10, 2007. After raising their children, Eleanor was employed at Coleman Products for 12 years until the closure of the plant. She enjoyed farming, embroidery, dancing with Chester, traveling, working jigsaw puzzles and word searches, and picking berries in her golf cart.  Eleanor and Chester were avid cribbage players.  In her younger days, she played the accordion.  Eleanor is survived by her sons, Kenneth Anderson and Michael Anderson, both of Iron River, MI and Richard (Maureen) Anderson of Iron Mountain, MI; daughters, Alice (Russell) Henriksen of Caspian, MI and Shirley Joelson of Longmont, CO; 13 grandchildren, Kirstin, Kimberly, Kari, Anna, Marci and Richard Anderson, Michelle (Pete) Longtine, Corey and Kevin (Melissa) Henriksen, Lisa (Elwood) Mason, Tom (Cathy) Joelson, Amy (Aaron) Main and Scott (Sarah) Joelson; many great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Martin and Mekkel Martinson; daughters-in-law, Joyce Anderson and Sharon Anderson; and son-in-law, Steve Joelson. Visitation will be held Friday, March 1, 2019 from 9:30 to 11:00 am at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.  Funeral services will follow at 11am with Pastor Dawn Robbins to officiate.
