Elma Maria Jackson

Elma “Maria” Jackson, age 80, of Iron River, MI, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Northstar Health System, Iron River. She was born April 13, 1933 in Topaz, MI, the daughter of the late Solomon and Lempi (Salo) Mattson. Maria married Arvo Jackson on June 5, 1954 in Covington, MI, and the couple celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary in 1993. Arvo preceded her in death on November 14, 1993. Maria was a member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church of Watton, MI. She enjoyed animals, going for walks, working crossword puzzles, baking, watching Finland Calling, and especially spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Raymond, Arvo, Waino, and John Mattson, sisters, Emma Mattson, Martha Antilla, and Gloria Heitala, and granddaughter, Laura Larson. \Maria is survived by her sons, Dean of Iron River, Daron (Anna Dezorzi) of Caspian, and Darrell of Iron River; daughters, Joan (Herbert) Larson of Iron River, and Carol (Terry) Conrad of Bruce Crossing, MI; sister, Judy Niemi of Bruce Crossing; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 27th at 12:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, with Pastor Thomas Mackey to officiate. Interment will be in the Covington Cemetery in the spring.
