Mr. Elmer ""Swede"" Anderson Age 83 Gaastra, MI passed away Friday, March 16, 2007 at Marquette General Hospital, Marquette, MI. Born August 22, 1923, Gaastra, MI The son of the late Erick and Else (Blomberg) Anderson was a life long resident of Gaastra. He attended the Gaastra and Palatka Schools and graduated from Stambaugh High School in 1941. He was a U. S. Army Veteran, serving during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He married the former Dorothy Tomasoski on August 9, 1947 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Gaastra and the couple made their home in Gaastra. They celebrated their 59th Wedding Anniversary in 2006. He was a miner for the M.A. Hanna Mining Company until closure of the mine. He then was employed by the West Iron County Public Schools as a custodian and bus driver, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, and the former St. Mary's Catholic Church of Gaastra, where he served as usher. He was also a member of the American Legion. Swede served as Mayor of Gaastra for 9 years, and also served on the Stambaugh School Board. He was the baseball Manager/Coach for West Iron County High School for over 14 years. Swede was well known as pitcher for many of the area baseball teams. He was an avid Detroit Fan. He was also preceded in death by his brother Anders Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Three sons, Michael (Jeanne) Anderson of Lakeville, MN Mark ( Cheryl) Anderson of Iron River, MI Alan (Kim) Anderson of Grafton, WI One daughter, Kathleen Haydon of Crystal Falls, MI Eight grandchildren, Meredith, Raymond, Eric, Shannon, Nicole, Michelle, Matthew, and Joseph One great granddaughter, Alexis Nieces and nephews Visitation: Monday, March 19, 2007 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River, MI. The Parish Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Services: Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, MI, with Rev. Otto Sartorelli and Deacon Robert Kostka to concelebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. The West Side Veterans Council will accord Military Rites. Interment: Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River, MI Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Inc. of Iron River.
