Elna E. Ponozzo

Elna E. Ponozzo, age 88, of Iron River, MI. passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019 at home. She was born November 24, 1930 in Beechwood, MI, the daughter of the late William and Mary (Hirvrela) Norkoli. She attended the Iron River schools, Graduating from Iron River High School with the Class of 1948. Elna married Harvey R. Ponozzo Sr. on September 25, 1948 in Marquette, MI, and the couple celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in 2014. Harvey preceded her in death on September 11, 2015. She attended the First Baptist Church of Iron River. Elna enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, dancing, working crossword puzzles and especially spending time with family. Elna is survived by her sons, Greg Ponozzo and Dennis (Nancy) Ponozzo, both of Iron River; daughters, Cheryl (Larry) Smith of Iron Mountain, MI and Bonnie Ponozzo of Green Bay, WI; sister, Lila Stebbins of Iron River; grandchildren, Clint, Carrie, Greg Jr., Jeremy, and Dennis Ponozzo, Toni Jaeckels, Gina Wollner, Stacy Daugherty, Stefanie Smith, Monica Minor, Amy Marcell, and Brian Bond; 16 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to her husband Harvey, she was also preceded in death by her sons, Harvey Ponozzo Jr. and Randy Ponozzo; grandson, Craig Ponozzo; brother, Tom Puskala; sisters, Sally Gibson, Marie Erickson, Sylvia Gudjonson, Sigrid Bedinger, and Ruth Valenzo. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 6th from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Iron River. Funeral services  will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor John Fish to officiate.
