Elsie Netherly

Elsie Netherly, age 97, of Alvin, WI, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. Elsie was born on January 6, 1924, in Tabor, KY, the daughter of the late James and Lillie (Day) Stapleton. She attended the Elvoy School in Alvin, WI. She married Melvin Netherly on June 14, 1941, in Nelma, WI and the couple celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary in 1980. Melvin preceded her in death on April 8, 1981. She was a member of the Little White Church in Alvin. Elsie served as the president and then vice president of the Women’s Club of Alvin for many years. She an avid quilter and enjoyed working on arts and crafts projects. Elsie is survived by her daughter, Elaine Netherly of Alvin, WI; brother, Arnold Stapleton of Nelma, WI; grandchildren, Tammy (Jeff) Poteete, David (Laura) Studdard and Brant (Judy) Studdard; seven great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; son, David Netherly; brothers, Lawrence, John, Clay, Ale, Harley, Bobby, and Turner Stapleton; sisters, Flossie Thompson, Virgie Ingram, and Etta Mae Stapleton. Visitation will be held Monday, November 29, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Little White Church in Alvin, WI. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Della Rosenow to officiate. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Alvin, WI in the spring.
