Elsie H. Plourde

Elsie H. Plourde, age 95, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Saturday September 3, 2022 at the Iron River Care Center. Elsie was born on June 3, 1927 in Stambaugh, MI, the daughter of the late Alex and Hilda (Maki) Maenpaa. She attended the Stambaugh Schools. On September 18, 1943 she married Kenneth Plourde, and he preceded her in death in 1987. Elsie and Kenneth owned and operated Lakeview Cottages and Gas station on Chicagon Lake. Elsie was also employed as a clerk at Krom’s Department Store for many years. She also was worked at the Dreyr Store, Iron Inn, Medicare in Crystal Falls, Ski Brule and Coleman Products, until her retirement in 1996. She also worked in Milwaukee and Racine WI. She loved to read and enjoyed taking friends and family to their appointments or errands. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian, Michigan. Elsie is survived by her nieces and nephews who were like children to her and Kenneth since having no children of their own; Daryll (Rita) Johnson of Green Bay, WI; Gary (Kathy) Johnson of Green Bay, WI., Ray Jr. (Maraloy) Plourde of Franksville, WI., Sandra Campbell Wautoma, WI., Gerald (Carol) Johnson of Bassett, IA, Dale (Paula) Maenpaa of Oak Creek, WI., David (Cindy) Maenpaa of Greenfield WI., Laurie (Faye) Maliszewski of Milwaukee, WI., along with many great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Lauri Maenpaa and sisters, Aili Johnson and Laura Maenpaa and cousin, Lila Kosky. Visitation will be held on September 7, 2022 from 11:00am to 11:45am at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. A Prayer service will follow at 11:45am with Rev. Raju Jose to officiate.
