Elvira ""Vera"" Masnjak, 70, of Stambaugh Township, MI, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Northstar Health System, Iron River after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born November 14, 1942 in Chicago, IL, daughter of Leo and Marie (Bergamo) Weintraub. She graduated from Tuley High School with the Class of 1961 and then attended cosmetology school. She worked as a hairdresser for over 54 years. Vera married Donald Masnjak on March 6, 1965 at Holy Trinity Croatian Catholic Church of Chicago, IL. The couple made their home in the Chicago area for many years, moving to Stambaugh Township following their retirement. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, the Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge #32, and volunteer at the Iron County Museum. She was a charter member with her husband, Donald, of the Croatian Cultural Center of Chicago, IL, a teacher and choreographer with the Sloboda Jr. Tamburitzans, and danced with the Zrinski-Frankopan Croatian Cultural Club, both of Chicago. She also enjoyed crafting stained glass. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Kristian, and brother, Roy. She is survived by her husband, Donald; sons, Paul Masnjak of Stambaugh Township, Karl (Denise) Masnjak of Naples, FL, and Marko (Noreen) Masnjak of Chicago, IL; brother, David (Sue) Weintraub of Nova Scotia, Canada; and granddaughter, Ashley Marie Masnjak of Fort Myers, FL. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St Mary 's Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL. Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.
