Emelie J. Gagnea, age 80, of Gaastra, MI, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. She was born on April 18, 1939 in Gaastra, MI, the daughter of the late John “Jack” and Luella (Battye) Applin. She attended the Stambaugh Schools and graduated with the Class of 1957. Emelie married Odean Gagnea on September 27, 1958 and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. After 44 wonderful years together, Odean preceded her in death in 2003. Emelie worked as an EMT for over 25 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Iron River and the American Legion Reino Post #21 Auxiliary. Emelie spent her life helping people and felt Veteran support was very important. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts and spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Emelie is survived by her son, Steven Gagnea of Iron River, MI; daughters, Beth (Kurt) Sheldon of Gaastra, MI, and Kim (J.D.) Flood of Iron River, MI; grandchildren, Andy (Heather), Jeff, and Deana Cronkright, Katelynn and Kali Jo Flood, Pam Stolberg, Ashley, Emily, Zachary, and Joshua Gagnea, and Micah and Lucas Bragg; great grandchildren, Aiden and Chase Cronkright; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Marvin and George Applin and sisters, Charlotte Allen, Corrine Boutell, Marion Carlson, and Merle Spicer. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 9:30 to 11:00am at the First Presbyterian Church of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11am with Pastor Dawn Robbins to officiate. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery in the spring.
