Ethel Joyce Turbessi, 92, of Iron River, MI passed away Friday Dec 27, 2013 at her home. Ethel was born May 14, 1921, in Stambaugh, MI. She married the love of her life, Primo Turbessi Oct. 4, 1939 in Gaastra MI. Ethel was a wonderful compassionate mother and advocate to her 3 boys Richard, Ronald, and David. They were her reason for living. Primo and Ethel were instrumental in the opening of a number of group homes and programs for the mentally ill and handicapped in the UP of MI. She worked with many influential people including Governor Romney. She never turned her back on people in need. Ethel’s personality was so vibrant and fun…she had a quick wit and enjoyed life and friends. Her little antique shop was known to be the best north of Chicago. She will surely be missed and her memory will live on for a long time. Ethel lived by the Prayer of Saint Francis Assisi:Lord, make me an instrument of your peace!Where there is hatred…….let me sow love Where there is injury…….Pardon Where there is doubt…….Faith Where there is despair………Hope Where there is darkness…..Light Where there is sadness…..Joy O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled……as to console To be understood…..as to understand To be loved…….as to love For it is in giving……that we receive t is in pardoning…..that we are pardoned It is in dying……that we are born to eternal lifeEthel was preceded in death by her husband Primo.
