Eugene “Gene” E. Callovi, age 76, of Iron River, MI, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 8, 2017 at his home. He was born February 25, 1941 in Rhinelander, WI, the son of the late Geno and Erma (Holford) Callovi. He attended and graduated from the Stambaugh Schools, with the Class of 1959. Eugene married Marilyn Nichols on February 23, 1991 in Iron River at Losey’s Landing Supper Club. The couple celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary this year. He was employed in maintenance at the Krist Oil Company for 30 years and the Iron River Senior Center for many years as well. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian and their Men’s Club Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Jaycees, Golden K Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles and a former Elk. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Eugene is survived by his wife Marilyn; daughters, Kathleen Callovi of Green Bay, WI and Jeanne Callovi (Mike Rullcoski) of Iron River, MI, their mother, Gaye Callovi; step-sons, Dale (Terry) Nichols of Long Lake, WI and Bruce (Lisa) Nichols of Tipler, WI; brother, Bruce (Jo) Callovi of Caspian, MI; sisters, Virginia Parker of TX, Marilyn (Gary) Westphal of Caspian, MI and Renee (Terry) Verville of Iron River, MI; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy Callovi. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian, with Rev. Jeffrey Kurtz to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery at a later date.
