Eugene D. Momont

Eugene D. Momont, 86, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls, MI. He was born on October 1, 1938, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of the late Michael and Elsie (Barfuss) Momont. Gene attended the Minneapolis Schools, graduating with the class of 1956. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Minnesota in 1962. Gene married Audrey Simondsen on September 11, 1971, in Sagola, MI. The couple made their home in Stambaugh Township and celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary in 2014. Audrey preceded him in death on March 27, 2015. He was employed as a farmer and heavy equipment salesman throughout his life. Gene started a wood pellet manufacturing company in Marathon County, WI. He was a member of the Michigan Farm Bureau. Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his friends and family. He especially enjoyed banter with best friend Larry Pifke, who spent many hours visiting Gene in his last years. Gene is survived by his sons, Michael A. (Mary Jo) of Iron Mountain, MI, Harry (Gail) of Madison, WI, David (Sheila) of La Crosse, WI, Patrick (Victoria) of Caldwell, ID, Timothy (Jackie) of Rogers, AR, Andrew (Michele) of North Aurora, IL, Joseph (Jennifer) of Arpin, WI, and Michael C. (Terra) of Solon Springs, WI; daughter, Christine (Joe) Urick of Minnetonka, MN; 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Susan J. Momont, brother, Phillip Momont. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
