Eva Nellie (Spencer) Stapleton, age 93, was called to her heavenly home on Sunday May 26th at Omro Care Center, Omro, W,I where she resided since 2006, previously of Nelma, WI where she lived most of her life. Eva had moved to Omro area to be closer to her children. Eva was born in Nelma, WI on January 23, 1920, the daughter of Herbert and Mittie (Puckett) Spencer. She attended the Elvoy School. On July 6, 1940 she married John Stapleton in Nelma, WI. They were married by her Uncle Rev. Ponder Spencer. John preceded her in death April 2001. Eva was a long time member and one of the founders of the Pentecostal Church of God (Little White Church) Alvin, WI. She accepted Jesus as her personal savior in 1944, and thoroughly enjoyed and dedicated her life to serving Him. Eva was very active in her local church where she happily served as president of Youth Group and Ladies Ministries, was song leader for many years, Sunday school teacher, and served as secretary and treasurer for the church. On the District level for the Pentecostal Church of God, Eva served as president of Youth Group as well as Women's Ministries. In Eva's words ""I enjoyed serving God!! Blessed, above all that I could imagine. God works through humans, to God be the Glory!"" She also served as president and member of the Nelma Women's Club. Eva worked 15 years for F.W. Means in Caspian, MI and retired in 1979. She was a great cook and knew how to cook just about anything you asked her to. She made the best venison roast and apple pies ever. At the age of 85, Eva took her first snowmobile ride to breakfast and back, with her great granddaughter. She would remark ""can't you just picture this white haired, 85 year old riding a snowmobile."" Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great, great grandmother, and aunt, she will be missed all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her children, Joan (Paul) Graham of Omro, WI, Richard (special friend Patricia) Stapleton of Oshkosh, WI, and Bonnie Stapleton of Peru, IN; grandchildren, Paula (Brian) Hulbert of Omro, WI, Rick (Kim) Stapleton of Omro, WI, Dan (Wendy) Graham of Alvin, WI, Kathy Stapleton of Oshkosh, WI, Alta Renberg of Peru, IN, Bill Stapleton of MN; great grandchildren, Brittany Graham, Kyle, Karri, and Keefer Stapleton, Breana Hulbert, Amanda Goodnight, Andrew and Aaron Renberg; three great, great grandchildren,Jeslyn, James and Jayda; several step grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters,Nancy Stapleton of Rhinelander, WI, and Mary Spencer Peru, IN; one brother,Herman Spencer; two sisters-in-law, Elsie Netherly of Alvin, WI, and Liz Stapleton Alvin, WI; three brothers-in-law, Turner Stapleton of Nelma, W, Arnold (Carol) Stapleton of Nelma, WI, and Elwood Stapleton of Alvin, WI; step daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Stapleton of Clay City, KY. In addition to her husband, John she was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judith; son, Bill Stapleton; step son, Clyde Stapleton; daughter-in-law, Julie; three sisters, Edna Culver, Lorraine Fater, and Elma Stapleton; two brothers, Clayton Spencer and Thad Spencer; sisters-in-law, Irene Spencer, Lorraine Spencer, and Shirley Spencer; brothesr-in-law, Ed Culver, Gerald Fater, Courtney Stapleton, Wendal Rigle, and Marvin Whitcomb. Services will be held this Saturday, June 1st at the Little White Church in Alvin, WI. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. . Ministers Rev. Herman Spencer (Eva's brother) and Gene Spencer (Eva's nephew) will officiate. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Alvin, WI. Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River, MI.
