Eva C. Wurzer, age 92 of Iron River, MI, passed away Friday, October 15, 2010 at Northstar Health System, Iron River. Born: February 26, 1918 in Dober Location, Caspian, MI The daughter of the late Axel and Mary (Nikkola) Raiha attended the Cloverland School through eighth grade and graduated from Stambaugh High School as Class Valedictorian in 1935. She was selected to the National Honor Society in the first induction of the society in the area in 1935. After graduation, she worked as a domestic engineer for Detroit, MI and Evanston, IL families. On November 1, 1941, she married Joseph C. Wurzer in Iron River and the couple were lifelong residents of the area, making their home in Stambaugh Township. Joseph preceded her in death on September 13, 1993. Eva served as Deputy Clerk and then Clerk for Stambaugh Township for 41 years. She retired from employment in 1983 after 15 years as office aide with the West Iron County Schools. Eva was a 4-H leader for many years, a library board member, and enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Citizen Center in Iron River and with her family. She also enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, making her loom rag rugs, and knitting. She especially loved her four trips to Finland as well as attending the Annual FinnFests throughout the U.S. and Canada. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Lauri and David, sister, Ida Cochennette, and several extended family members.. She is survived by sons; David (Suzanne) Wurzer of Long Beach, CA Peter Wurzer of Whitewater, WI Daughter, Mary Wurzer of Darien, IL Grandsons; Joseph Wurzer of Alexandria, VA John Wurzer of Long Beach, CA Sisters; Ann Morgan of Tumwater, WA Caroline Mehlberg of Iron River Elizabeth Ponozzo of Iron River Sisters-in-law; Lucille Raiha of Iron River Ann Wurzer Bolka of Milwaukee, WI Nieces, nephews and extended family Visitation: Saturday, October 23, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Memorial Service: Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 12 noon at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River, with Rev. Kevin Kaiser to officiate. Interment: Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the West Iron District Library or the Iron County Museum.
