Evelyn M. Shoquist

Evelyn Marie Shoquist, age 78 of Iron River, MI, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, MI. She was born June 9, 1930 in Floral Park, New York to George and Marguerite (McNamare) Wright. The family moved to Michigan Center, MI from Manhassett, NY when she was seventeen. Evelyn married William Shoquist on April 28, 1970 in Grass Lake, MI. She was employed as a welder at Mechanical Products of Jackson, MI making parts for the space shuttle. Following her retirement in 1992, William and Evelyn moved to Iron River to make their home. They built their home on the farm William's grandfather Peter Shoquist had purchased in the late 1800's in Bates Township, now know as Shoquist Road. She was a member of the Auto Worker's Union. She loved to crochet, sew, and bake, and her pride and joy was her flower garden. She was known for her ""green thumb"" and loved growing all different kinds of flowers and plants. She also enjoyed collecting angels and miniature rocking horses. She loved spending time with her children, step children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Myles McSweeney and sister Betty Podrazik. She is survived by her husband William Three sons; Tom (Karen) McSweeney of Jackson, MI John (Deb) McSweeney of Clarklake, MI Pat (Kim) McSweeney of Chelsea, MI Three daughters; Eileen (Kim) Willis of Port Orange, FL Katie McSweeney of Petersburg, VA Lyn (Dave) Shoquist of Michigan Center, MI Step children; Robin McGraw of Jackson, MI Cheryl Ulrich of Grass Lake, MI Brenda (Randy) Mollner of Allen Park, MI 20 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren Nieces and nephews Extended family and friends and four-wheeler friends Her chocolate lab, Bugs that she dearly loved Private family services will be held with a memorial service to follow in the summer around the date of her birthday (June 9).
