Everett John “Evy” Angeli, a lifelong resident of Iron River, Michigan, was called to be with his Lord on February 21, 2024, at the age of 69. He was born to the late Thomas and Eleanor (Grandelius) Angeli on October 15, 1954. He was raised amidst the natural splendor of his hometown and held cherished memories of the Angeli family farm on Iron Lake. He was a graduate of West Iron County High School in 1973 and furthered his education at Northern Michigan University. Everett was an accomplished football player who proudly contributed to NMU’s National Championship victory in 1975. This achievement was a highlight in his life and reflected a sense of camaraderie and love of the game. Evy worked many carpentry jobs and was a certified pipe welder before entering into the Department of Corrections. A dedicated public servant, Evy worked as a Corrections Officer for the Michigan Department of Corrections for over 32 years, where he demonstrated a strong commitment to duty and a deep sense of responsibility. His compassionate nature made him a mentor to many who sought his guidance and support in both his work and personal life. Evy retired from the Department of Corrections on October 1, 2022. Evy, being an avid sports fan, enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, and participating in outdoor activities such as biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, swimming and snorkeling. Everett possessed a passion for the outdoors, finding solace and joy in hunting and fishing. He was a devout member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, where he practiced his faith and found fellowship among his congregation. Everett's life was characterized by kindness and generosity towards his family and friends, never hesitating to lend a helping hand to those in need. His deepest affection was reserved for "his girls" - his devoted wife of 45 years, Rhonda, and his cherished daughters, Jayni and Kristie. He leaves behind a legacy rooted in love, family values, the power of storytelling, and, most significantly, his unwavering faith in God. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Rhonda Angeli, his daughters Kristie Angeli (Brian Berg) of Firestone, CO. and Jayni (Kevin) Alphenaar of Mattawan, MI.; siblings, Mary Arcand of Crystal Falls, and David (Penny) Angeli of Albers, IL; nieces and nephews, Christi (Sean) Raphael, Craig (Dana) Arcand, Taylor Angeli, Zachery Angeli, Alexandra Angeli, Tim Stenlund, Nathan Stenlund, Breanne (Ryan) Lindbert, Lauren (Nicole) Marshall, Stephanie (Josh) Maulding and Shannon (Kyle) Smith; and extended family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Thomas and Eleanor Angeli; his brother, Thomas (Tony) Angeli; and his brother-in-law, David Arcand. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Rev. Daniel Fosu to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in the Iron River Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Upper Peninsula Catholic Services Appeal (UPSCA) in Evy’s honor. May he rest in peace.
