Fern V. Rizzardi

Fern V. Rizzardi, age 88, of Iron River, died Monday, August 18, 2014 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, MI. She was born September 21, 1925 in Crystal Falls, MI, the daughter of the late Harry and Hilda (Holmes) Brown. She attended the Crystal Falls Schools. Fern married Alfred “Al” Rizzardi on January 16, 1988, and the couple made their home in Iron River. They celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary in 2013. Al preceded her in death on November 15, 2013. Fern was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River and the Altar Society. She enjoyed playing bingo, bowling, and sports, and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her family, Duane (JoAnn) Sleeman and their daughter, Michelle (David) Coates and a great grandson, Ty; Patti (Jeff) Sabotta and their daughter, Jillene, and a great granddaughter, Emma; Alan (Patty) Sleeman and their children Carlie and Jack; Larry (Lynn) Rizzardi and their children Scott, Todd, Gina (Zach), and Lisa (Tim), and great grandchildren Jackson and Robert; Don (Janelle) Rizzardi and their children, Tony, Nick, Joe, Benjamen, and Matthew; Mary Rizzardi ; Theresa (Monica) Rizzardi; brother, Floyd Brown; nieces, nephews and extended family She was also preceded in death by H. Keith Sleeman (father of Duane, Patti, and Alan), brothers, Harold, and Harry Brown Jr., and sister, Lorraine Carlson. Visitation will be held Friday, August 22, 2014 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase, Pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
