Florence M. Johnson

Florence M. Johnson, 85, of Iron River, MI, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Northstar Health System, Iron River. She was born May 12, 1929 in Caspian, MI, the daughter of the late Melford J. and Mary (Cowling) Shovald and was a lifelong resident of the area. She attended the Palatka and Stambaugh schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School in 1947. Florence married Herman J. "Jim" Johnson in 1950 at the First Lutheran Church and the couple made their home in Iron River. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2000. Florence was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron River and the Friendship Club at the Iron River Care Center for many years. She was an active volunteer worker in the community and enjoyed caring for several local children. She also enjoyed working on crafts. She is survived by her husband Jim; sons, Robert James (Bonnie) Johnson of West Bend, WI, and their children, Nic, Tyler, and Jason, and Gary Lee (Kelly) Johnson of Iron River, and their children Jeremy, Kaycee, and Kayla; daughter, Cindy M. (Ron) Lippman of Denver, CO, and their children, Toby and Brandi; brother, John Shovald of Sparks, NV; sister, Bessie Nora of Iron River; three great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Melford J. Shovald. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 26, 2014 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, with Rev. Bonny Kinnunen to officiate. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River.
