Florence L. Pifke, age 95, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2019 at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. She was born on July 10, 1924 in the Saunders Location of Stambaugh Township, the daughter of the late William and Freda (Smedlund) Young. She attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating with the Class of 1941. Florence married Clarence Pifke on July 3, 1944 and they settled in the South Brule area. The couple celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in 1999. Clarence preceded her in death on April 18, 2000. She was employed as a secretary by the Kingston Lumber Mill and later for the Michigan Unemployment Office. She was a member of the Grace Covenant Church in Iron River, the Iron County Genealogy Society, the Iron County Museum, and 43 years with the Iron County 4-H. She enjoyed volunteering, crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble, and reading. Florence is survived by her son, David (Christine) Pifke of Shelton, WA; daughter, Susan Pifke of Iron River, MI; three grandchildren, Robin (Chris) Ivey, Joshua (Casey) Pifke, and Andrew Pifke; great grandson, Justin Ivey; great great grandson, Logan Ivey; sisters, Betty Lukins and Nancy Isom, both of California; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brother Richard and infant brother David, and sisters, Phyllis Wall and Bonnie Stockhill-Mohr. Visitation will be held Monday, September 9, 2019 from 9:30 to 10:45 am at the Grace Covenant Church in Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11am with Rev. James Swanson II to officiate. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery.
