Frances M. Hodgson

Frances M. Hodgson, age 82, of Long Lake, WI, passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Florence Health Services.  Frances was born on May 9, 1936 in Blackwell, WI; the daughter of the late Stephen and Lavenia (Hopman) Nowak. She attended the Blackwell and Wabeno schools, graduating from the Wabeno High School with the Class of 1954.  She started working as a nurse’s aide in Blackwell and then was a waitress at the hotel in Long Lake, where she met the love of her life, Lyle W. Hodgson.  They were married on June 11, 1955 in Laona, WI and the couple made their home in Long Lake.  Frances and Lyle celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in 2010.  Lyle preceded her in death on December 11, 2010. She was a member of Long Lake Bible Church.  Frances was also a member and the secretary of the Long Lake-Tipler Rescue Squad from 1990 to 2017, when she retired.  She also served as treasurer of Long Lake for 58 years, retiring in 2017.  In her younger years, Frances was a softball player.  She loved to bake and cook for her family and her favorite food was tomatoes.  She was affectionately known to many as “Granny Franny”.  Frances is survived by her sons, William (Sandy) Hodgson of Long Lake, WI and Stephen (Tammy) Hodgson of Suamico, WI; daughters Ellen Hodgson of Ashland, WI and Mary Hanson of Eagle River, WI; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; dearest friend of 60 years, Carol Cooper; nieces, nephews and extended family. Besides her parents and husband, Frances was preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn Simonis. Visitation will be held Monday, October 15, 2018 from 10 to 11:30 am at the Long Lake Bible Church.  Funeral service will follow at 11:30 with Pastor Gary White to officiate. Pallbearers will be Jason Mattson, Matthew Hodgson, Kobe Hodgson, Brett Krueger, Stephen Hodgson Jr., and James Cooper.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jack McCraw and Todd Mulvey.  Interment will be in Long Lake Cemetery, Long Lake, WI.
