Francis “Frank” J. Armata, age 77, of Iron River passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2015. Frank was born August 11, 1937 in Ironwood, MI, son of the late Frank and Amelia (Sokolowski) Armata. He attended the Ironwood Schools, graduating from Luther L. Wright High School with the Class of 1955. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Frank married the former Roberta Nohlechek on April 24, 1965 in Iron River. The couple celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary in 2013. Roberta preceded him in death in May of 2013. Frank was employed by meat cutter at the local grocery stores for over 35 years. He was a member of the Elks Lodge of Iron River, American Legion Reino Post #21, and VFW Ottawa Post #3134. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising dogs, and playing cards. He is survived by his son, Leonard (Erin Ray) Armata of Juneau, WI; brother, Donald (Kathy) Armata of Ironwood, MI; sister, Betty Duke of Nashotah, WI; niece, Sandra Marks and other nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Dolores Armata Kuivanen. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 12:30 p.m. at St, Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
