Gail F. Gustafson, 85, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Country Villa Assisted Living in Little Chute, WI. Gail was born on January 7, 1940, in Crystal Falls, MI, the daughter of the late Oliver and Mildred (Anderson) Luopa. She attended Iron River Schools and graduated with the Class of 1958. On March 16, 1957, she married Clarence Gustafson in Iron River and the couple made their home in Iron River Township. The couple celebrated many wonderful years together before Clarence preceded her in death in 1997. Gail was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Iron River where for many years she was active in the St. Paul’s Ladies Aide and other church functions. She enjoyed spending time with family and reminiscing about the Luopa and Anderson family gatherings. She loved animals, especially her pets, she enjoyed researching family ancestry, doing crafts, gardening, and reading, particularly history. Gail was very passionate about her lifelong roots to Beechwood and was a member of the Beechwood Historical Society. Gail made friends easily and a favorite saying of hers was, “A friend is not the sort to whom you need to be explained, it’s one who knows you inside and out and loves you just the same”. Gail is survived by her sons, Kelly (Jane) Gustafson of Iron River, MI and Kyle (Cheryl) Gustafson, of Neenah, WI; son-in-law, Joe Pacheco of Iron Mountain, MI; and seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; very close cousins, Joan Luhtanen and Carol Ristinen; nieces, nephews, many cousins, and friends. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Darcie Pacheco, and sister, Judith Bentley. Visitation will be held Friday, June 6, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Iron River with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Chuck Sheffler to officiate. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Iron River.
