Gary L. Johnson

Gary L. Johnson, age 59, of Iron River, MI, unexpectedly passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2022. He was born on September 24, 1962, in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Herman “Jim” and Florence (Shovald) Johnson. He attended and graduated from West Iron County High School. Gary married Kelly Condon on August 2, 1980, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian, MI. The couple celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary in 2021. He was a self-employed carpenter and jack-of-all-trades. Gary was a member of the Carpenter’s Union and the Sons of the American Legion Reino Squadron 21. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, working on cars, and building things. Gary especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and friends and watching his grandchildren play hockey. Gary is survived by his wife, Kelly; daughters, Kaycee (Ryan) Zimmerman of Iron River, MI and Kayla (Shane Keigher) Johnson of Fort Collins, CO; brother, Robert (Bonnie) Johnson of West Bend, WI; brother-in-law, James Condon of Caspian, MI; sister, Cindy (Ron) Lippman of Brighton, CO; sister-in-law, Michelle Piper of Traverse City, MI; grandchildren, Aidyn and Addisyn Zimmerman; mother-in-law, Diane McGinnis of Kingsford, MI; father-in-law, James Franklin Condon of Crystal Falls, MI; special pal, beloved dog, JJ; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jeremy Johnson. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 28, 2022, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. A Liturgy of the Word Service will be conducted at St. Cecilia Catholic Church at 11:30 a.m. with Father Michael Woempner to officiate. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
