Gary John Menghini

Gary John Menghini, age 69, Gaastra, MI, died Saturday October 11, 2008 at the Marquette General Hospital, Marquette, MI. Born: August 21, 1939 in Vulcan, MI The son of the late John and Eleanor (Jackomino) Menghini attended St. Barbara's Catholic School in Vulcan and graduated from Iron River High School. He attended Northern Michigan University Police Academy and graduated with honors. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and was active in the Army National Guard. Gary was employed by the Iron County sheriff's department and was deputy sheriff for over 22 years retiring in 1999. He married the former Sylvia Tomko September 26, 1959 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian and the couple made their home in Gaastra. The couple recently celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary. Gary was a devoted father and grandfather; his family was his life and meant the world to him. He was an avid gardener, loved trout fishing, camping and hunting. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian, Gaastra fire department and honorary member of the Caspian and Gaastra Fire Dept. He was a charter member of the Lame Duck Lodge . Gary was honorary member of the Gaastra Zoning Board. He served as Iron County Bailiff for the Honorable Joseph Schwedler. He was preceded in death by his brother Larry Menghini. Survived by his wife Sylvia Sons; Andrew (Melanie) Menghini of Caspian Larry (Sherri) Menghini of Caspian Daughters; Tammy Menghini of Iron River Melody (Jason) Williams of Iron River Sally Menghini of Green Bay, WI Brother Carl Maki of Louisiana 14 grandchildren; Michael, Mark, Matthew, Tommy Willis Gary, Joseph, Ryan, Amy Menghini Abby (Lee) Niven, Brian Gill, Katie (Tyler) Dobson Jon, Chelsie and Larry Menghini, Jr. 5 Great Grandchildren; Ally, Hannah and Cole Niven, Aaron and Andrew Dobson. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and three nieces Lisa Laura, and Debbie. Visitation: Tuesday October 14, 2008 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. The Michigan Law Enforcement and Firefighters of the Iron Range Firefighters Assoc. will attend the visitation at 6:00 p.m. A Liturgical Prayer service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Service: Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church with the Rev. Norman Clisch, pastor to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment; Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River The West Side Veterans Council to accord Military Rites.
