Gary F. Sarafiny, age 83, of Caspian, MI passed away on Friday, January 17, 2020 at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. Gary was a resident of the Iron River Care Center for the past year. He was born on September 17, 1936 in Caspian, MI, the son of the late Frank and Lillian (Sgaggio) Sarafiny. He attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating with the Class of 1954. Gary married his high school sweetheart Sharon Stolberg on June 30, 1956 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Stambaugh, MI. The couple celebrated 63 years of marriage. After their marriage, the couple resided in Detroit where Gary was employed by Exello Corporation. Upon returning to Caspian, he was employed by M.A. Hanna Mining Co., First of America Bank, and Century 21. As a local business man he owned and operated two laundromats and Sarafiny Appraisals. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian. He loved to fish, hunt, and travel. Gary was a Frank Sinatra fan, always doing things his way! He was a Tiger, Lions, and Wykon fan. And Gary was a jack of all trades and a very devoted family man. Gary is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughters, Cindy (Bill) Gustafson of Superior, WI, Tina (Vince) Joyce of Iron River, MI, and Shelly Losey (Mick) of Iron River; grandchildren Dustin (Kelly) Keliin, Dana (Craig Stevens) Keliin, Lana Bowser, Lisa (Jason) Kichura, Adam (Tina) Bowser, Chris Bowser, Eric Ghiggia, Nick (Chelsey) Ghiggia, Laura (Greg) Ghiggia, Tess (Nate) Sarafiny, Zane (Kailey) Sarafiny, Raegan Sarafiny, and Isabella (Brody) Vander-steen; 19 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; sister, Gloria Rae; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Dorothy Stolberg, Dan Stolberg, Bonnie and Jim Talerico, and Dawn Margoni; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Gary Sarafiny; in-laws, Lambert and Delvina Stolberg; son-in-law, Gerald Losey; grandchildren, Nathan Gustafson, Adrianna Ceron; great granddaughter, Cierra Ghiggia; and brother-in-law, Bill Rae. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 from 9:00 to 10:30am at Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery in the spring.
