Geno S. Selmo, age 93, Caspian, MI died Sunday, April 6, 2008 at the Shawano Medical Center, Shawano, WI. Born: July 18, 1914 in Caspian, MI The son of the late Joseph and Domenica (Signorin) Selmo graduated from Stambaugh High School in 1934. He then attended Western Michigan University, graduating with a degree in Physical Education in 1939. Geno married the former Armida Fiorani on April 4, 1944. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1994. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII and was honorably discharged as a 2nd Lieutenant. After he returned from the service, he worked for the Iron County Health Department until 1963 when the couple moved to Wisconsin Rapids where he was a Health Sanitarian for the State of Wisconsin. He retired in 1979 and the couple returned to the Caspian area. Geno was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, the Progressive Men of Caspian, and a former member of the Iron River Elks. He was preceded in death by his wife Armida on December 2, 2001, and five brothers; John, David, Bert, Joseph, and Andrew. He is survived by his son, Michael (Mary) Selmo of Milwaukee, WI Daughter, Diane (Duane) Petcoff of Shawano, WI Brother, William (Dorothy) Selmo of Rockford, IL Sister, Mary Johnson of Rockford, IL Granddaughter, Tina Petcoff Step-granddaughter, Rachel Step-great granddaughter, Megan Numerous nieces and nephews Visitation: Wednesday, April 9, 2008 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. A Liturgical Prayer Service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Service: Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian with Rev. Norman Clisch, pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites. Interment: Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River.
