George E. Darrell

George E. Darrell, age 84, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2020 at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. He was born on April 27, 1936 in Salt Lick, KY, the son of the late Virgil and Rittie (Stapleton) Darrell. He moved to Nelma, WI, at the age of 5 and attended school in Nelma and then the Iron River High School. George married Elta Borske on September 28, 1957 at the Little White Church in Alvin, WI. The couple made their home in Kenosha, WI and returned to Iron River after retiring. They celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in 2011, before Elta’s passing in January of 2012. He was employed as a machinist for American Motors/Chrysler for 32 years and retired in 1988. He was a member of the UAW #72. He had a passion for fishing and hunting. George is survived by his son, Bryan (Sandy) Darrell of Paddock Lake, WI; daughter, Melody (Tony) Fittante of Iron River, MI; sisters, Delores Donathan and Etta Mae Hack, both of Peru, IN, Elma Cook and Loretta Darrell, both of Alvin, WI, and Marie Wynne of Coarsegold, CA; sister-in-law, Barbara Darrell of Beaverton, AL; grandchildren, Maeghan Yates; Audra, Evan, Joshua, and Noah Stoebner; great grandchildren Darrell and Evelyn Yates; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Stoebner, brother, Homer Darrell, and sister, Gladys Whitt. Visitation will be held on Friday September 11, 2020 from 10:00am until 12:00 noon at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River. Graveside service will follow at 12:30pm at Lakeview Cemetery in Alvin, WI. with his children Bryan Darrell and Melody Fittante to officiate.
