George E Holm

George E. Holm, age 87, of Iron River, MI, formerly of Dimondale, MI, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Iron River Care Center. George was born June 1, 1929 in Iron River, MI, to John and Hulda (Nelson) Holm. He married Barbara Oss on October 28, 1950, and the couple celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in 2014. Barbara preceded him in death on April 21, 2015. George was a Veteran of the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, he moved to the Lansing, Michigan area and began work for the Lansing Board of Water and Light. He retired in 1989 and returned to the Iron River area. George was a member of the Crystal Falls American Legion, Dimondale Lions, Masons, Eastern Star, Shriners, Iron River Golden K, and the First Lutheran Church of Iron River, and was involved with the Kinship Program. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to and working at camp, and especially spending time with his family. George is survived by his sons, Norman (Ann) Holm of Benzonia, MI, John (Liz) Holm of Cincinnati, OH; daughters, Susan Holm of Seattle, WA, Donna (Mike) June of Hoodsport, WA, Pam (Pete) Gasperini Iron River; brother, Elsworth Holm; sister, Celeste Powell; five grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Clifford and Bob, sisters, Doris, Carol, and Millie, and granddaughter, Jennifer June. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 13, 2016 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. in the Luther Room at the First Lutheran Church of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Laakko to officiate. The family suggests memorial donations to the First Lutheran Church of Iron River Mortgage Fund.
