George Francis McGeshick ""ZAAGAJIIWIIASHI"" , age 95 of Tipler, WI, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at his home. Born: July 31, 1914 in Pickerel Lake, WI The son of the late William and Dorothy (Merricle) McGeshick attended the Mount Pleasant, MI schools, graduating from Mount Pleasant High School. He then attended Nicolet College for four years, majoring in forestry. George married the former Mary Edwards on August 5, 1934 in Green Bay, WI and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1984. Mary preceded him in death on February 22, 2001. He was a member of the Watersmeet Baptist Church, the Chicagoan Lake Indian Heritage Council since 1971, and the Native American Big Drum -Sokaogon-Chippewa. He built canoes that were displayed at the Smithsonian and has a statue at the museum. He was also preceded in death by four sons, Harry, James, Art, and Herman McGeshick ; three daughters, Donna Mae, Alvina, and Frances; brothers, Peter, Jack, John Duck, and Charles; sisters, Sadie and Jesse He is survived by two sons; George McGeshick Jr. of Iron River, MI Raymond McGeshick of Mole Lake, WI Two daughters; Evelyn Benter of Tipler, WI Dorothy Beson of Mole Lake, WI One brother, Vernon McGeshick of Iron River, MI 23 grandchildren 33 great grandchildren 18 great, great grandchildren Numerous nieces, nephews and extended family Visitation begins at noon, Wednesday, August 26th until time of the Big Drum Service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 28th at the Boys and Girls Club, Mole Lake, WI.
