George W. Peterson

George W. Peterson, age 91, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Medilodge of Leelanau in Suttons Bay, MI. He was born on September 15, 1928 in Iron River, MI, the son of the late George and Salvina (Beaudry) Peterson. He attended and graduated from the Iron River Schools. George married the former Anna Dent on June 10, 1950 and the couple made their home in Iron River. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in 2017, before Anna’s passing on May 20, 2018. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron River. George was also a former church council member and he belonged to the men’s club at the church. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, trips to Isle Royale, and loved to go camping. George was also a ham radio operator. George is survived by his son, Thomas Jay (Sally) Peterson of Traverse City, MI; daughters, Sharon (Randy) Zielicke and Gail Peterson, both of Appleton, WI, Sally (Clif) McQueen of Marquette, MI; brother, LeRoy Peterson of Iron River, MI; sister, Arlene Smith, Joliet, IL; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Edwin and Richard and sisters, Cecile and Elain. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 11:00am at Resthaven Cemetery with Pastor DJ Rasner to officiate.
