Gertrude ""Gert"" Schiavo, age 83 of Green Bay, WI (formerly of Caspian, MI) passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, WI. She received kidney dialysis for seven years and was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. Gertrude was born on June 11, 1926 in Iron River, Michigan, the daughter of the late Joseph and Pauline (Harris) Kadluboski, and was a 1944 graduate and Salutatorian of Iron River High School. Gert and Lawrence J. Schiavo were married on November 23, 1955 at St. Mary's Assumption Catholic Church in Iron River. Lawrence preceded her in death on August 2, 1996. Gert worked in the office for a variety of local businesses including the Proksch Lumber Company, Selins True Value, and Ray's IGA Store. We will always remember her lifelong passion for gardening, canning, and cooking for the family. These were her true hobbies. Her enjoyment from a good night of playing bingo or canasta with her kids and grandkids will be some of our fondest memories as they provided many good laughs and stories. She enjoyed her role as the armchair coach while watching the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs. She always had an opinion about the game which she shared for all of our benefit over the years. She is survived by her six loving children; Diane Schiavo, Donna (Dennis) Melnarik, Holly (Mike) Dewick, Green Bay; Larry (Dawn) Schiavo, Marshall, MN, Paul (Carolyn) Schiavo, Princeville, IL and Gary Schiavo, Caspian, MI. She had eight wonderful grandchildren; Peter Schiavo, Lisa and Julie Melnarik, Shane, Nicholas, and Anna Schiavo, Michael and Benjamin Dewick; her sister, Helen Drobnick and brother, Leonard (Clarice) Kadluboski, both of Waukegan, IL; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Gertrude was also preceded in death by sisters, Ann, Mary, Josephine, and Frances and brothers Ray and Val. Visitation: Thursday, July 16th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. A Liturgical Prayer Service will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Funeral Service: Friday, July 17th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian, with Rev.
