Mrs. Gladys C. King, age 92 of Iron River, MI, died peacefully Sunday, September 13, 2009 at the Iron River Care Center, Iron River. She was born on June 30, 1917 in Gladstone, MI, the daughter of Herbert and Floy (Harrington) Clark. She grew up in the local area and graduated from Stambaugh High School. She married Bartley E. King on December 23, 1942 and the couple celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1992. Bartley preceded her in death in 2000. Mrs. King earned a Bachelor's degree at Northern State Teacher's College and later earned her Master's Degree at Northern Michigan University, Marquette, MI. She taught school in the Menominee Public Schools, Stambaugh Township Schools, and the West Iron County Schools, retiring in 1980. Following her retirement, she served as a trustee on the West Iron County District Library Board for many years. Mrs. King was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Iron River. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge, working crossword puzzles and traveling. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Hazel Molley, Virginia Bruder, Violet Casagranda, Mae Watson and Vivian Branyon and brothers Bruce Clark, Hugh Clark, Earl Clark, Manley Clark, Donald Clark and Chester Clark. She is survived by two sons; Terence (Jacqueline) King of Pinconning, MI Jay (Diane) King of Iron River Sister, Joyce (Don) Parolari of Frankenmuth, MI Sister-in-law, Joan Clark of Carlsbad, NM Four grandchildren Seven great grandchildren Numerous nieces and nephews Visitation: Wednesday, September 16, 2009 from9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Service: Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Iron River with Rev. Dawn Treado Green to officiate. Interment: Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River The family suggests memorial contributions to the West Iron County Library. Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River.
