Grant W. Helgemo

Grant W. Helgemo, age 79, of Iron River, MI, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Monday, June 26, 2017. He was born December 22, 1937, the son of the Walter and Oakel (Lewis) Helgemo. He attended and graduated from the Iron River High School in 1955.  He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was very active in the community and served as the Bates Township Supervisor for two terms, from 2008 to 2016. He was employed as a real estate agent for 35 years. He also worked in construction, logging and as a car dealership salesman throughout the years. Grant especially loved spending quality time with his family, was an avid sports fan and enjoyed wildlife, hunting and genealogy. Grant is survived by his children, Jeffrey Helgemo of Iron River, MI, Christi Gainer of Island Lake, IL, Tammy (Dan) Pinkerton of Manistee, MI, William Richards of Cutler Bay, FL and Matthew (Katie) Helgemo of Waukesha, WI; sisters, Sandra (Bruce) Hassen of Lansing, MI and Patti (Jack) Comp of Dryden, MI; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.   He was also preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Slevoski and brother-in-law, Dale Slevoski.Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2017 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dawn Robbins to officiate. Interment will be in the Bates Township Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
