Harold J. Hawke

Mr. Harold J. Hawke, a former resident of Caspian, passed away early Friday morning, February 9, 2007 at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, where he had been a resident patient for the past month. He was born May 29, 1920, in Crystal Falls, a son of the late Howard and Eva (Duscharme) Hawke. As a child he attended the Caspian Schools. Harold had resided in the Iron River area until moving to Houghton in 2004. Mr Hawke was a veteran, having served with the United States Army during World War II. In 1941 he was united in marriage to the former Zaire Mary Magaraggia, and they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1991. On June 27, 2004, she preceded him in death. Together with his wife, Harold had owned and operated the Hawke Shoe Repair Store in Iron River for 38 years. Harold was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church and the Reino American Legion Post #21. He was known to be an avid outdoorsman and an all around ""good guy"". Also preceding him in death was a brother Curtis and a sister Myrtle Reid. Surviving are: 1 son: Melvin (Lorene Whitman) Hawke of Green Bay, WI 1 daughter: Barbara (Don) Fisher of Hancock, MI 3 Grandchildren: Debbie (Kevin) Hutek of Holland, MI Dr. Ronald (Beth) Fisher of Chassell, MI Gregg (Sharon) Fisher of Chassell, MI 5 Great Grandchildren: Tyler & Lucas Hutek, Emily, Tony, & Alec Fisher 2 brothers: Howard (Emma) Hawke of Gaastra, MI Albert (June) Hawke of Iron River, MI 1 sister, Marie Montambo of Iron River, MI Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral Services for Harold will be held at 7p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2007, in 7:00 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River, with Rev Aloysius Hasenberg to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Stambaugh Cemetery in Iron River, MI. Friends may call at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River on Tuesday, February13, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. to time of service.
