Harold L. Parvi

Harold L. Parvi, age 94, of Iron River, MI, died Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Northstar Health System in Iron River. He was born April 25, 1920 in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Frank and Emma (Hanhisalo) Parvi. He attended the Stambaugh schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School with the Class of 1939.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in the Medical Detachment of the 379th Infantry. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and an EAME Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Service Stars.  He was employed by West Side Plating Company as a machinist for over 30 years, retiring in 1982. Harold married the former Elsie Mottes in July of 1942 and the couple celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1992.  Elsie preceded him in death in 1998. He was a member of the Finnish Lutheran Church, the Elks Lodge, the Machinist Union, VFW Louis Bowman Post #87, American Legion Alfred Branchini Post #17, and Raya Rhyma. Harold enjoyed dancing. Harold is survived by niece Phyllis (Robert) Walstrom and nephew Dennis (Martha) Sargent, both of Phoenix, AZ and cousins, Helyne Burns of Iron River and Walter Osterlund of Neena, WI. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2015 from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. with Rev. Mike Laakko to officiate. Interment will be in the Stambaugh Cemetery in the spring. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
