Helen S. Johnson

Helen S. Johnson, age 98, Iron River, MI died March 16, 2008 at her home. Born: December 31, 1909, Brainerd, MN She was the daughter of the late Emil and Hilda (Johnson) Niska. She attended school in Menahga, MN and graduated standout basketball player. She married George Johnson on June 9, 1940 in Chicago, IL and the couple moved to Iron River in 1941 after a short stay in Marquette. She was a member of the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church of Iron River. She was an avid reader, loved music and crossword puzzles and enjoyed her children and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, on May 6, 1983, four brothers; Edwin, Arnold, Walter, Verner, and two sisters; Lillian and Leona. She is survived by four sons; Michael (Lorraine) Johnson, Negaunee, MI Dennis (Diana) Johnson, Champion, MI Richard (Patricia) Johnson, Hibbing, MN Paul (Debbie) Johnson, Deer River, MN Three daughters; Karen (Ron) Beauchamp, Iron River, MI Mavis (Donald) Landsverk, Wadsworth, IL Barbara Johnson, Madison, WI Three brothers; Robert Niska, Portland, OR Nellerd Niska, Minneapolis, MN Howard Niska, Minneapolis, MN One sister, Dorothy Moody, Homosassa, FL 26 Grandchildren, 41 Great Grandchildren Host of brothers and sisters in faith. Visitation: Tuesday March 18, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River and March 19, 2008 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Lutheran Church, Iron River. Funeral Service: Wed. March 19, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Lutheran Church, Iron River with the Rev. Charles Prusi to officiate.
