Helen E. Kinner, age 90, of Iron River, MI, passed away, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the Aspirus Iron River Hospital. She was born February 3, 1928 in Phelps, WI, the daughter of the late Allan and Impi (Heikkinen) Niemi. She attended the Phelps Schools, graduating from Phelps High School, with the Class of 1946. She worked in the house keeping industry for over 50 years. Helen married John Kinner on November 29, 1946. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2011, before John’s passing on March 13, 2012. She attended the First Lutheran Church of Iron River, and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary of Iron River and 15th District President. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, baking and reading. Helen is survived by her sons, Alan (Carole) Kinner of Kenton, MI, and Gary (Kathy) Kinner of Iron River, MI; daughters, Rita (Earl) Martin of Marquette, MI and Josie (Roger) Allen of Boulder Junction, WI; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. A Memorial Service service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Michael Laakko to officiate. The American Legion Reino Post 21 Auxiliary will form a Poppy Honor Guard at the service. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, in the spring.
