Helen R. Mathesius

Helen R. Mathesius, age 66, Iron River, MI died Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Iron County Community Hospital, Iron River. Born: September 13, 1941 in Chicago, IL The daughter of the late Melvin and Vera Mae (Schaffer) Fennewald attended the Joliet schools and St. Mary's Catholic High School. Helen married William Mathesius on April 23, 1960 in Lockport, IL and the couple celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary this year. She was employed as a sales associate at Walmart for 12 years. In 2003, the couple moved to Iron River to make their home. The center of Helen's life was her family. She enjoyed all types of crafts, especially knitting, sewing, and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her son David A. Mathesius and three grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, William Son, William (Christine) Mathesius Jr. of Cary, IL Four daughters; Patricia (Garth) Doerr of Brookfield, IL Melvina (Kevin) Land of Mountain Home, ID Barbara (Gary) Klyczek of Bloomington, IN Catherine Mathesius of Iron River Two brothers; Joseph Fennewald of Joliet, IL Melvin ""Butch"" (Evelyn) Fennewald of Wilmington, IL Three sisters; Edna Stevens of Joliet, IL Dorothy Olson of Joliet, IL Mary Johnson of Joliet, IL 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church of Iron River with Rev. Bonny Kinnunen to officiate. Memorial Services will also be held on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Plattville Lutheran Church, Minooka, IL with Rev. Bret Reedy to officiate.
