Herman "Jim" Johnson

Herman J. “Jim” Johnson, age 89, of Iron River, MI, died Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Northstar Health System, Iron River. He was born May 19, 1925 in Iron River, MI, the son of the late Herman and Agnes (Jacobson) Johnson. He attended the Iron River Schools and graduated. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was employed as a truck driver for over 18 years. Jim married the former Florence M. Shovald in 1950 at the First Lutheran Church of Iron River, and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. Florence preceded him in death on July 23, 2014. Jim was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron River, and the American Legion Reino Post #17. He enjoyed mechanic work, woodworking, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren. Jim is survived by his sons, Robert James (Bonnie) Johnson of West Bend, WI, and their children, Nic, Tyler, and Jason, and Gary Lee (Kelly) Johnson of Iron River and their children, Jeremy, Kaycee, and Kayla; daughter, Cindy M. (Ron) Lippman of Brighton, CO and their children, Toby and Brandi; sister, Patricia Prin of Lakewood, CO; five great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 10, 2015 from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Father Mike Woempner to officiate. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River in the spring. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
