Herman J. Taetsch, age 90, Iron River, MI, died Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at his son's home in Green Bay, WI. Born: July 13, 1918 in Iron River The son of the late Sebastian and Emma (Gendron) Taetsch was a lifelong resident. He attended the Iron River schools, graduating in 1938. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He married the former Charlotte Piper on May 17, 1947 and the couple made their home in Iron River. He owned and operated Sweet Corner Grocery in Iron River with his brother Raymond until his retirement in 1975. The couple celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary in 1991. Charlotte preceded him in death on May 5, 1992. Herman was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River and the VFW Ottawa Post #3134 of Iron River. He enjoyed hunting and woodworking. He was also preceded in death by three brothers; Robert, Raymond, and Caryle. He is survived by his son, James (Celeste) Taetsch of Green Bay, WI Daughter, Sharon Funke of Coburg, OR Brother, Donald ""Bud"" Taetsch of Iron River Sisters; Geraldine Albiero of Crystal Falls, MI Mary Jean (Maurice) Grindatti of Green Bay, WI Four grandchildren; Michelle LaRock Noel Snyder Chrissy Taetsch Jeremy Taetsch Two great grandchildren Nieces and nephews Visitation: Sunday, September 7, 2008 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. A Liturgical Prayer Service will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Funeral Service: Monday, September 8, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River with Rev. Norman Clisch, pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment: Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River. The West Side Veteran Council will accord Military Rites.
