Hilda Ester Phillips

Hilda “Ester” Phillips, 79, of Crystal Falls, MI, passed away Friday, December 6, 2013 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls. She was born May 4, 1934 in Amasa, MI, the daughter of the late John and Hilda (Peltonen) Ketola. She attended the Amasa Schools and graduated. She was employed as a baker and various other aspects of the food service industry for many years prior to her retirement. Ester married Jack Phillips on May 29, 1954 at the Bethany Lutheran Church of Amasa and the couple were lifelong residents of the area, making their home at Gibson Lake. They celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in 2008. Jack preceded her in death on December 21, 2008. Ester was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Amasa. She enjoyed baking and entertaining family and friends at her kitchen table. She was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth, and her many siblings. Ester is survived by her son, Michael Phillips of Crystal Falls; daughters, LuAnn Phillips of Crystal Falls, and Kathi Phillips, of Pembine, WI; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 4, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Amasa, MI.
