Ileen J. Richards

Ileen J. Richards, age 88 of Iron River, MI, died Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, MI. She was born January 20, 1926 in Iron River, MI, the daughter of the late Albert and Cecilia (Armstrong) Carne attended the Iron River schools graduating from Iron River High School in 1943. She was employed at local grocery stores and later as a Michigan Bell telephone operator. Ileen married Radford "Rad" Richards on February 17, 1945 at St. Agnes Rectory, Iron River, where they were lifelong residents, except for a 2 year residency in Green Bay, WI. The couple made their home in Iron River Township and celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1995. Rad preceded her in death on June 7, 1999. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River and St. Agnes Altar Society. Ileen enjoyed reading, camping, baking, sewing (embroidery), and taking Sunday drives with Rad. She took pride in her pets, plants, and yard. Her favorite family travels included week-ends shared at the cottage, trailer trips to county and state parks, and seasonal vacations to Copper Harbor, Isle Royale, and Florida. She is survived by three daughters, Peggy (William) Jacobson of DePere, WI, Raddie (Frederick) Maurer of Perry, MI, and Patty (Ray) Rogers of Hibbing, MN; brother, Willard (Arlene) Carne of Escanaba, MI; son-in-law, Michael Ruppert of West Bend, WI; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Triese Haase-Ruppert, brother, Albert Jr., baby brother, Clifford, and sister, Cecil McGrew. Visitation will be held Friday, October 10, 2014 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase, Pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
